“HR Skills for Non HR Managers” Can it bridge the gap?

Many organisations, large and small, suffer from the entrenched misunderstanding between human resources & line management. Both seem to be a world apart when, in a fiercely competitive and rapidly changing business environment, partnership cooperation and expertise are mostly needed. As a result, organisations have suffered from costly employee related issues. To close the gap, both parties need to develop their skills in each other’s area. While developing thorough understanding of the business and its operation is a pre-requisite skill for any HR professional, the same is not necessary true for line management. However, it has become evidently clear that good management is about understanding and managing the factors that lead to change in employee behavior and develop commitment and engagement. Success and growth of the organization will depend on how effective non HR managers become competent in HR related activities.

This course is designed to develop the capabilities of line management professionals in key HR areas and as such encourage better understanding of the value addition of HR services and processes.

  • The classical HR role versus the new role
  • The link between HR & business strategy
  • How the different HR functions operate and add value to the organization
  • How non HR managers add critical value to people processes
  • HR communication essentials
  • Employee engagement initiatives
  • The Psychological contract and its impact
  • Measuring the effectiveness of Human Resources – HR KPI’s
  • Technology and people management
The duration of the course is three days followed by a two day workshop. The workshop will focus on case studies and the development of HR competencies at strategic levels in key areas such as Recruitment & Selection, Employee Relations, Reward Management, Job Evaluation & Grading, Training & Development.

While it is strongly recommended to attend both sessions, delegates can choose to attend one.
While it seems to be difficult, the classical divide can be bridged and this course is specifically designed for this purpose.

The course plus workshop is offered twice in 2010.
